Shadowverse Worlds Beyond

Welcome to the exciting world of Shadowverse, a popular digital card game now onto its second digital title, Shadowverse Worlds Beyond!

A mainstay in collectible card games in Japan, Shadowverse has an anime, a physical card game, and massive tournaments with thousands of players in attendance for its most significant events.

With the original Shadowverse being on the market for close to a decade, Worlds Beyond signifies both a reset and the beginning of a new era of Shadowverse. There's no better time to join!

Why you should play Shadowverse Worlds Beyond:

  • If you like the anime art aesthetic of Shadowverse (it's like Hearthstone, but for weebs!)
  • If you like fast-paced and quick games with meaningful decisions
  • If you like flashy and cool visual effects!
  • If you want to play a relatively cheap card game (well, at least the original digital one was!)
  • If you played the original Shadowverse or Shadowverse: Evolve

How do I get started with Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond?

*Note that some details will shift as the game is released.

For newcomers to the game, we have a few general tips to help you get accustomed to the game flow and decide on what decks and classes you want to play!

Play the Story Mode

Not only does Shadowverse have an immersive story that's regularly updated, but it's also a great way to learn the game and earn rewards!

In Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, we have six different protagonists spread across the seven classes, Dragoncraft, Swordcraft, Abysscraft, Portalcraft, Forestcraft, Havencraft, and Runecraft.

The setting in Worlds Beyond is as follows:

A realm beyond imagination in a world beyond reality. It is upon this stage that the Feast of Wolves plays out. Valiant souls, each with their own hidden motives, are gathered from multiple worlds to engage in a battle royale. With no end to the bloodshed in sight, one girl takes matters into her own hands.

The difficulty in the Story Mode is usually straightforward for beginners to clear. Get accustomed to the game's mechanics and card pool before facing off in PvP!

Utilise Eudie, the helpful AI for beginners!

In practice matches, you can utilise the feature AI Tips to better grasp the basic rules and strategies of dueling in Shadowverse! Turns have no time limit in practice matches so players learning how to play will be able to make full use of this feature.

In the below picture, you can see how Eudie provides tips in-game to help you defeat your opponent!

Class breakdowns

You'll want to start by selecting a class. Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond consists of seven different classes, Portalcraft, Swordcraft, Forestcraft, Abysscraft, Havencraft, Dragoncraft, and Runecraft.

For a new player, you'll want to pick something that aligns to your play style, your preference in aesthetics, and your overall goals. If you're the type of player who wants to win events above all else, then just check out our tier list and pick something in Tier 1. But if you're looking for more information on class identity and aesthetics, then read on.

Dragoncraft

Dragons. Lots and lots of dragons. If you're looking for a way to play big followers much earlier than you're supposed to, you've come to the right place. Armed with powerful ramp options, this class gains play points via various effects, allowing it to rush into explosive followers like Forte, Dark Dragoon, and Genesis Dragon.

Sample decklist

Forestcraft

All the denizens of the wild are at your command, from elves to fairies to unfathomably monstrous beasts. One of the most flexible classes, known for combo potential, but also capable of good old-fashioned aggro. Often considered as one of the classes with the highest skill cap as well.

Sample decklist

Abysscraft

A mixture of the Bloodcraft and Shadowcraft classes from the original Shadowverse, it's a class with a focus on using alternative resources, such as your life points and the lives of your own followers to power up the abilities of your followers. A class with two extremes, with some of the most aggressive archetypes in the game, to heavy control strategies focused on building up your graveyard and empowering your late game. You'll also like this archetype if you have an affinity for the demonic and the undead.

Sample decklist

Havencraft

The Shadowverse take on Havencraft depicts the holy and the heretical side of religious worship. From the divine holy maiden Jeanne d'Arc, all the way through to heretical abominations. What makes Havencraft unique is in its usage of Amulets, Healing, and powerful removal options. Definitely recommended for fans of the control playstyle.

Sample decklist

Runecraft

Like magic? Then this is the class for you. A class that has powerful spells for every occasion, including the most impactful spell of them all, Dimension Climb, which allows for explosive turns that surpass all known play point limits. Its key mechanic is called Spellboost, where your cards become more powerful as you cast more spells.

Swordcraft

Also called "Royal" in Japanese, it's a theme heavily centred on nobility and medieval warfare. You get a nice mix of maids, princesses, and hot guy six packs within the class. A class that aims to take control of the board to chip away at the opponent until they can be finished with explosive storm finishers like Albert!

Sample decklist

Portalcraft

A class that can be most adequately described as futuristic. Between the supreme engineering marvels of Artifacts, a dystopian future with puppet manipulation, all the way through to the cosmic horrors in space, it's usually a highly complex class for those that want to challenge themselves. For example, just look at this monstrosity:

Now that I've decided on my class, what now?

First thing's first, you'll want to pick up a starter deck of your chosen class. It comes with exclusive cards and a simple deck for you to learn the key mechanics. If it's your first time playing the game, try to find a friend to play you with another starter deck.

If you like the feel of the class, it's time to power up your deck. Check out any of the decks on Shadowverse Master as a reference point for what type of cards are popular.

How can I obtain new cards?

The answer to this question ultimately depends on your budget and how competitive you want to be with the game. These are the key ways to obtain cards:

  • Playing the story mode
  • Play in-game events and receiving free rewards from the developer
  • Logging in every day and doing your daily quests
  • Completing your Battle Pass
  • Playing tournaments for prizing to build your collection slowly
  • Opening your daily free pack (see below)

Acquire a daily pack by logging in

Yep, just log-in every day and you will get a free pack!

I can't afford everything in the deck, do I really need X card? What cards should I prioritise?

Although the F2P economy is usually pretty good in Shadowverse, most players will find it difficult to play "every deck"right out of the gate. It's best to focus on the classes that you're most interested in first before building out other classes. It's much better to have one or two complete decks than 5-6 incomplete ones!

My class is currently Tier 3 or lower, help!

Like in most card games, no classes or archetypes remain tier 1 forever, and different decks will take turns at the top. It means that even if your class is currently not in Tier 1, it may very well receive the push it needs in the next set.

Where can I find somewhere to play?

In addition to Ranked Matches, you can also hang out at the Lobby area to find opponents

The official SVO circuit has already been announced, and there are bound to be community tournaments that pop up here and there as well!
