In 2017, the legend of the Portalcraft class was born. The ultimate edgelord, Yuwan, vowed revenge against the Keepers, who once manipulated him and ultimately betrayed him. In Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, the essence of the Portalcraft class remains the same. Edgy. Overly technological. Built for those who have ascended past the shackles of the normies.
Just look at this monstrosity. We're building a giant robot, so I suppose we need a large diagram to explain how it's made. Giant Gundams don't build themselves, you know?
Artifacts - for when you want to feel superior to your opponent
If you enjoy big ass Robots, then welcome to the club, Brother. In the original Shadowverse, this was a class that required the APM (actions per minute) of a Korean Starcraft Professional Gamer. Fortunately for those of us less well endowed in esports, it's now possible to enjoy the class without utilising a supercomputer.
It all revolves around the Gear of Ambition and the Gear of Remembrance. A large majority of your deck will create one or more of these Gears, which is the starting point towards your quest for world domination (creating the Gundam). Both of these cards have the Fuse: Effect, allowing you to merge an Artifact Amulet in your hand to transform it into something greater, either a Striker Artifact or a Fortifier Artifact. Both of these cards can be played to fight for the board, but to reach our ULTIMATE GOAL (building a giant gundam), we need to fuse additional Artifact cards to create Ominous Artifact Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Only after making all three, can we merge them to craft the Masterwork Artifact Omega, the culmination of our lifelong pursuit to create something greater than ourselves, a giant 10/10 robot that has Storm, Ward, Aura, nukes the board for 5 AOE, and heals us for 5.
Of course, the opponent will try everything in their power to prevent us from reaching this point. Ominous Artifact Alpha, Beta, and Gamma are all fairly strong in their own right but we don't really want to cast them because it will mess up our ability to assemble the Masterwork Artifact Omega. This is where our Alouette and Doomwright Resurgence comes in. These cards allow us to clone the Ominous Artifacts from our hand and use their powerful end of turn effects (3 AOE Damage from Gamma is essential to contest the board).
Ralmia, Sonic Boom is one of our major bombs in the deck. She allows us to copy three artifacts in our hand and drop copies of them. This means that we can utilise all our Ominous Artifacts while continuing to setup for the Masterwork Artifact Omega.
The key to mastering the deck focuses on the following key concepts:
- What should I fuse from my hand?
- Which Artifacts should I create first?
- When do I have to play the Artifact to control the board, and when do I need to hold it to create my Giant Robot?
Making the wrong move could have catastrophic consequences for your engineering ambitions. But make the right ones? Your opponent will be annihilated by laser beams and overwhelming technological might. It's all up to you.
Puppets for Mid-range and Orchis Enthusiasts
The other key archetype for Portal is Puppets, a mid-range deck that has explosive finishers in the late game.
Puppets come in two different kinds. One of them is a 0-cost, 1/1 with Rush. These are handy to make advantageous trades into enemy followers and can also be held in hand for lethal potential in the late game. The other kind is the Enhanced Puppet, a 1-cost 3/3 with rush. Note that both Puppets will die at the end of the opponent's turn, so make the most of them before they expire!
Most of your followers and amulets will produce Puppets that will go into your hand. Cards like Medical Grade Assassin are exceptional, as they can turn your 0-cost puppet into a silver bullet that can kill any follower via Bane. Your goal in the mid game should be to stack up Puppets in your hand and then buff them via Noah, Thread of Death. On turn 8, you can play Orchis, Newfound Heart, which gives all of your Puppet followers Storm and Bane, perfect for clearing the enemy board and then sending the rest to the enemy face! If that isn't enough to finish the game, then at 10pp, you can play Liam, Crazed Creator to turn all of your puppets into ticking time bombs that will explode and deal damage to the enemy leader!
